Mobile devices, smart phones, mobile phones – call them what you will – are on the increase and continuing to grow.
Everywhere we look from public transport, to coffees shops, restaurants, bars and even walking down the road, everyone is engaged with their mobile device.
- More than 90 percent of adults now have a mobile phone. ( Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project.
- The number of mobile phone users in the world will reach 4.9 billion in 2018. This will be driven by the increasing popularity of smartphone usage which is set to reach 2.5 billion next year. That means next year over half of all mobile users will be smartphone users for the first time. (Statista)
- Digital usage will reach 5.7 hours per day in 2017, an increase of 0.3 hours (or 18 mins) from 2016. Decreases in usage of desktop and laptop are being partly offset by increased usage of mobile. (Statista)
- Nearly 60 percent of all Online Searches are now carried out on a mobile device, with some sectors reaching 72 percent . (Hitwise)
The ‘day’ section on the diagram below, from comScore Global Digital Future in Focus, shows how desktop is still important for daytime at work audiences, however mobile devices (tablets and phones) dominate in the evening.
There is a very clear message here – if you’re not able to reach your audience through mobile search or display, or you’re not providing a satisfactory mobile experience you will miss out compared to competitors who are.
Having your audience to visit your online space to engage and interact with your content becomes extremely unsuccessful if mistimed. Getting the timing right (right content, right place, right time) is key. Striking while the iron is hit has never been more important. ‘Proximity’ is the holy grail in highly targeted marketing.
So is there a marketing solution that uses location based technology to communicate directly with customers and drive them online presenting marketing messages to their mobile devices?
Proximity marketers can deliver useful and contextually relevant content and information to a mobile device that automatically appears when the person is within a close proximity of a venue, location or product. This enables brands and companies to digitally engage and interact with nearby customers.
Proximity marketing is about engaging and interacting with your target audience at the right place, at the right time with personalised and relevant marketing messages and product information & content.
